SUMMARY:iPHA webinar: Passive House Airtightness and the blower door test
DESCRIPTION:Air tightness is a fundamental pillar for every energy-efficient building. But how can we ensure a high level of quality\, and what needs to be taken into account? The webinar dives into the process of a “blower door measurement” to check the airtightness on the building site\, including leakage detection. Wolfgang Hasper from the Passive House Institute will not only explain how to set up a blower door test but also talk about common mistakes and ways to avoid them. The presentation will also explain how to calculate the characteristic value and classify the measurement result. \n Purchase Tickets

SUMMARY:iPHA webinar: Quality assurance concepts for fast deep renovation approaches
DESCRIPTION:This webinar will talk about quality assurance concepts for fast and deep retrofits. The outPHit project is developing quality assurance approaches to evaluate and approve energy efficiency concepts for renovation projects before and after the renovation works. \nA design stage approval concept can ensure building owners and investors that the retrofit can achieve the level of energy efficiency targeted. Certification of different renovation systems will ensure that the components used for the retrofit fulfil the energy efficiency requirements suitable for a renovation to the EnerPHit standard. \nTo verify the success of deep renovation projects\, outPHit has also developed the Verified Performance Certification\, which allows the evaluation of the building’s post-occupancy behaviour with performance data gathered by a minimal monitoring concept. \nYou can choose from two sessions:\nSession 1: 9:00 AM Frankfurt / 8:00 AM London / 4:00 PM Beijing / 7:00 PM Sydney\, Time zone converter\nSession 2: 6:00 PM Frankfurt / 5:00 PM London / noon New York / 9:00 AM San Francisco\, Time zone converter \nThis iPHA member webinar will last approximately 90 minutes and is worth 2 Passive House Continuous Education (CEPH) credit point. \nThe iPHA webinar series is a member benefit and free for all members. \nNEW: Non-members can access the webinars for 30 EUR. \nNot a member yet? Sign up and become a member and take advantage of the many benefits iPHA provides. \n Register Now!

SUMMARY:TOWARDS A BUILDINGS BREAKTHROUGH: RAISING THE PERFORMANCE OF THE BUILT ENVIRONMENT
DESCRIPTION:Date: Friday\, 23 September 2022\nTime: 10:15 AM – 11:15 AM EDT (GMT-4)\nLocation: Room 412\, David L. Lawrence Convention Center\, Pittsburgh USA\nFormat: in-person event (no livestream)\n\nEvent Description\nIn 2020\, the buildings and construction sector accounted for 36% of global final energy consumption and 37% of energy-related CO2 emissions (UNEP/GlobalABC\, 2021). The challenges to reaching high performance buildings are considerable as 82% of the people who will be added to the planet by 2030 live in countries without building energy codes or only voluntary codes. On a positive note\, over 65% will live in countries that have NDCs that mention building energy efficiency and/or building codes to improve energy performance. \nThe building and construction sector is key for national economies globally and plays an essential role in achieving the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and delivering the Paris Agreement.  Net-zero carbon emissions must be achieved across the overall building life cycle globally by no later than 2050 to achieve the Paris Agreement\, and yet the sector is not on track.  The transition to high performance in the sector calls for deep\, sector-wide transformation. \nThis event will highlight the importance of the built environment for energy performance\, climate action\, and quality of life. It will call for real action on the ground involving close collaboration among the actors in all sectors involved in the built environment. It will call for acceleration of the transition at global scale through deployment of ambitious national strategies and policies to improve building performance. The event will showcase the planned Buildings Breakthrough target and present the GlobalABC and HPBI as effective vehicles for attaining the target. \nA round-table will explore the link between the target\, the roadmaps for action\, and the HPBI\, and the session will call for rapid improvement at global scale.  The session will feature International Centres of Excellence on High Performance Buildings; presentation of the global academic initiative on research and education; progress toward a UN protocol on the built environment with international thought leaders defining goals and an implementation strategy; and diverse industry actors launching an integrated strategy to decarbonize the built environment\, including workforce and economic development opportunities. \nObjectives\n\nHighlight the Buildings Breakthrough target to be announced at COP27\nPresent the GlobalABC Buildings and Construction roadmaps and HBPI as effective vehicles for attaining the target\nInvite countries to join the buildings breakthrough and all stakeholders to support HPBI\nEnhance the visibility of GlobalABC and HPBI to attract partners and stakeholders\n\nLearn More

SUMMARY:Window Specs and Submission Processes
DESCRIPTION:Frontloaded: Dealing with specs\, u-values\, little-e acoustic\, and the NYC DOB submission process. \nWith a switchover to an automated DOB project system\, New York City now requires a more rigorous up front paperwork filing process. When it comes to windows and doors\, understanding the specification and testing thresholds being requested by the DOB versus what’s being requested by the passive house community adds another layer of complexity. In this talk we will provide a quick overview of how to navigate a few of the “front loaded” window filling requirements for NYC projects. \n Register \nLearning outcomes:  \n-NFRC\, ASTM\, AMAA\, CE\, and Passive House. What are they and which ones are applicable to code compliance and DOB filing? \n-Testing\, paperwork\, and hybrid solutions that are accepted for NYC Little-e acoustic filing satisfaction. \n-New York City child falls application and requirements and what systems can and can’t be used when DOH child falls are needed for the project.” \n  \n  \n

SUMMARY:How To Prepare For High Performance Windows
DESCRIPTION:475 High Performance Building Supply + Sash and Frame team up for this in-person training event followed by happy hour. \nYour windows are nice\, but how’s your install? \nWindows are often big\, heavy\, fragile\, and in Passive House buildings\, windows are the most valuable components. When aiming for high performance\, you want to make sure windows are properly installed. It’s about your building enclosure: one wrong move and your exterior walls can also suffer expensive damage. \nOptimal window installs take into account vapor drive at different times of year\, and take steps to super-insulate the window frames for the best thermal performance. In this workshop we look at window installations that are airtight and correctly flashed – and as a result will last the life of the building. A proper window install will bump up your building’s comfort and efficiency\, while ensuring that your walls stay dry. With both presentation and hands-on mock-ups\, the workshop aims to provide tools for simple and effective high performance window installations. \nRegister
